The area

The garden city, dressed at home

Al Ain moves differently from the coast. The oases keep the city low and green, and old Emirati families keep their houses across Al Jimi, Al Muwaiji and Hili. UAE University brings its own calendar of ceremonies and graduations, and Jebel Hafeet stands over all of it. Occasions here are family occasions: Eid mornings, weddings that fill a street, a graduation. The clothing for them is ordered from home, not from a mall.

That suits the way we work. We bring the fabric books to your majlis and measure everyone in one sitting. Fittings follow on the same grouped days. Kaftans are our most-ordered garment in Al Ain, cut to hang in a wardrobe as naturally as a kandura. Sherwanis come before wedding season, and English suits serve university ceremonies and government offices.

The drive from Business Bay takes about 90 to 105 minutes, so we set aside fixed Al Ain days rather than single trips. Neighbours often share a date, and fathers and sons get measured together more here than anywhere else we visit. If you are in Dubai anyway, the showroom holds all 3,000-plus fabrics. Many Al Ain clients choose their cloth there and take every fitting at home.

We run Al Ain visits on fixed days and group several households per trip, so a week's notice gives you first pick of times. A majlis makes the easiest fitting room, and evening appointments after work are fine.

Questions

Al Ain: common questions

Do you cut kaftans that sit alongside a kandura?

Yes, and in Al Ain that is most of what we make. The kaftan is cut from a pattern drawn for you, in cloth you choose from more than 3,000 fabrics, so it hangs as cleanly as a kandura you have worn for years. We fit it at your home across two or three visits.

How far ahead should Al Ain clients order?

Count on about 6 to 8 weeks from first measuring to collection, plus the spacing of our grouped Al Ain days. For graduation season at UAE University or a set wedding date, book as soon as the date is fixed and we schedule the fittings backwards from it.

Will you come to my house in Al Jimi or Hili?

Yes. Home visits are how we work in Al Ain. We bring the fabric books, measure you and anyone else in the family in one sitting, and return for fittings on our next scheduled day. There is no charge for the visit with an order.

Can you dress the whole wedding party in Al Ain?

Yes. Groom, brothers, fathers and friends are measured in one home session, usually in the majlis. Sherwanis and kaftans for the family, suits for anyone who wants one, all fitted at the house and handed over before the first event.
