The details

What makes it Italian

Four details, agreed with you at your first visit.

  1. The shoulder

    SHOULDER Soft, natural

The sleeve is set in like a shirt sleeve, with little or no padding. The shoulder follows your own shape.

  2. The build

    BUILD Half canvas

A light inner layer, called a half canvas, shapes the chest and lapel. It is lighter than an English suit and moves easily.

  3. The lapel

    LAPEL High, softly rolled

The lapel sits high and rolls softly down to the button. The breast pocket has a gentle curve.

  4. The trousers

    TROUSERS High waist, tapered

A slightly higher waist and a tapered leg. Side adjusters instead of belt loops, if you prefer.

Questions

Questions about the Italian suit

Where can I have a bespoke Italian suit made in Dubai?

At The Bespoke Corner in Business Bay. We draw your pattern by hand, and you choose from more than 3,000 fabrics in the showroom.

What is the difference between an Italian and an English suit?

The Italian suit is softer and lighter, with a natural shoulder. The English suit is more structured, with padded shoulders and a firmer shape.

Is an Italian suit comfortable in the Dubai heat?

Yes. Its light build lets it breathe. Choose a fine wool such as Tasmanian Navy or 15milmil15 Charcoal, and keep flannel for winter evenings.

Can an Italian suit be double-breasted?

Yes, like the chocolate-brown suit on this page. Peak lapels suit the soft shoulder well.
