What to wear

The dress code

  1. The jacket

    Black or midnight blue. A peak lapel or a shawl collar, faced in silk. One button, covered in the same silk.

  2. The trousers

    The same fabric as the jacket, with a silk stripe down each side and no belt loops. Braces or side adjusters, and a cummerbund or low-cut waistcoat at the waist.

  3. Shirt, tie and shoes

    A white dress shirt with a classic collar, a pleated or textured front and double cuffs. A black silk bow tie you tie yourself. Black patent or highly polished shoes.

  4. For women

    An evening gown, or a tuxedo made for a woman. Ours has silk lapels and a satin stripe, worn with a silk blouse or a white shirt.

Allow 6 to 8 weeks from your first visit to collection. Book when the invitation arrives, and earlier in the cooler months, when Dubai’s gala season is busiest.

Black tie: common questions

What does black tie mean on an invitation in Dubai?

A tuxedo and a black bow tie for men; an evening dress or a tuxedo for women. ‘Black tie optional’ means a tuxedo is welcome, but a dark suit and tie is fine.

Is a tuxedo too warm for Dubai?

Most black-tie evenings here are indoors and air-conditioned, where wool barathea is comfortable. For an outdoor event, ask us about a lighter fabric.

Can a woman wear a tuxedo to a black-tie event?

Yes. A women’s tuxedo is correct black-tie dress, worn with a silk blouse or a white dress shirt. We make them to measure.
